Your Kitchen Designer needs accurate room measurements to begin your design. Follow the directions below, then double—even triple check your measurements.
Note: The examples given are for a kitchen, but the same steps are needed for any design.
How to measure your room
Draw a rough sketch of your room on a separate sheet of paper. Once all the measurements are accurate, transfer the information to the grid paper in this guide.
Measure in inches only, not in feet and inches. Example: 138 1/4˝, NOT 11´-6 1/4˝.
Measure openings (doors and windows) from outside trim edge to outside trim edge.
Indicate which way the doors swing on your final drawing like this:
Floor Plan Measurement
Your completed floor plan should resemble the diagram shown below.
Make sure you show exact locations of doors, windows, hood vents, exhaust, gas line, water line, drains, switches, outlets, light fixtures, and heat vents.
Double check all measurements.
Wall Measurement
Measure the full length of the wall, beginning in the left corner.
Measure the wall in segments. Start in the left corner and measure to the outside edge of the first opening, such as a door or window.
Measure across the opening from outside trim edge to outside trim edge.
Measure from outside trim edge to the next opening, or to the far wall.
Check your overall dimensions: The measurements in steps 2, 3, and 4 should add up to equal the measurement you took
in step 1. Example: 62 1⁄2 + 36 + 39 3⁄4 = 138 1⁄4˝.
Measure from wall to wall at 36" height.
Measure from corner to window or door opening.
Measure across opening from trim edge to trim edge.
Measure from edge of trim to far wall. Compare sum of #2, #3 and #4 measurements to step #1.
Mark exact location of water, drain, gas lines and electrical outlets and switches on drawing.
Measure from wall to wall above window and compare to #1.
Measure from floor to window sill.
Measure from window sill to top of window.
Measure from top of window to ceiling.
Measure from floor to ceiling – Compare to sum of #7, #8 and #9.

You will receive shipping notice in 2 weeks after we receive the first payment. Make the second payment 50% of estimate balance, before shipping.
Appliance
Show desired locations of appliances on drawing. It is very important to indicate natural gas locations, 220 volt outlets, any wall mounted telephone locations (T) and cable TV locations (CTV).
